Where do I go with my sewage complaints?

That depends on the situation. Most septic complaints are handled by the Zoning Offices in Waushara, Green Lake, and Marquette Counties. However, if the discharge flows to creeks or water, the DNR will be notified. The Health Department will also inspect when there is a public health concern.

Does the Health Department have an ordinance regulating sewage discharges?

Yes. The Human Health Hazard Ordinance regulates the presence of wastewater or sewage effluent from buildings on the ground water surface, backing up into the building and or running into a surface water body caused by a failed, damaged, malfunctioning, improperly constructed or inadequately maintained private sanitary sewer waste disposal system or private sewate lateral connected to public sewer system. Also, the Department regulates any wastewater or sewage effluent that is not handled and disposed of in compliance with applicable county and State codes.
